Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Tuesday, July 23, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Tuesday (July 23, 2024) at 8:00 AM WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 11 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 11.86 millimeters and a duration of 182.6 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on July 23, 2024, from 00:00 to 06:00 WITA showed 1 instance of an emission earthquake with an amplitude of 2.9 millimeters and a duration of 161 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 3 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 5.9-10.5 millimeters and durations of 8-12 seconds, and 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 29.6 millimeters (s-p 15.2 seconds) and a duration of 60 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists to refrain from any activity within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,973 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (709 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 405 times.
