Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Afternoon, Eruption Height Around 2,000 Meters

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (25/8/2025) at 14.09 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 3 times.

Reporting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 2,000 meters above the peak (3,584 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on August 25, 2025, from 06.00-12.00 WITA showed 2 times of emission tremors with amplitudes of 4.4-7.4 millimeters and earthquake durations of 31-49 seconds.

Subsequently, 5 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3.7-7.4 millimeters and earthquake durations of 84-159 seconds, and 1 low-frequency earthquake with an amplitude of 2.2 millimeters and an earthquake duration of 25 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urged the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 6-kilometer radius from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,789 volcano eruptions/events across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,312 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 484 times.
