Warning! Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again Tonight (Monday, July 28, 2025)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (July 28, 2025) at 7:21 PM WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted twice.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column was approximately 200 meters above the peak or 1,623 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to grey with moderate intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 33.5 millimeters and a duration of 53 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on July 28, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM WITA showed 52 eruption tremors/earthquakes with amplitudes of 8.7-34.2 millimeters and durations of 39-102 seconds. Subsequently, there were 23 exhalation tremors with amplitudes of 2.3-7.5 millimeters and durations of 30-46 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok as well as visitors/climbers/tourists not to enter and not to carry out activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and to be aware of potential hazards from lava falls/landslides and hot clouds from the South and Southeast sectors, West sector, and Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,353 volcanic eruptions/explosions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,151 times) while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 199 times.
