Alert! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Thursday, February 26, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday (February 26, 2026) at 10:41 PM WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 25 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column is about None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

No visual eruption was observed. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 20 millimeters and a duration of 44 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on February 26, 2026 from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM WIT showed 125 eruption/explosion earthquakes with an amplitude of 10-28 millimeters and a duration of 39-75 seconds.

Then, 2 emission earthquakes with an amplitude of 4-8 millimeters and a duration of 33-37 seconds, as well as 12 harmonic earthquakes with an amplitude of 8-28 millimeters and a duration of 46-150 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 778 volcanic eruptions/explosions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (405 times) while Mount Ibu has erupted 326 times.
