Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Sunday, July 27, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Sunday (July 27, 2025) at 22:36 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 46 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around None meters above the peak or None meters above sea level.

The visual of the eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 54 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on July 27, 2025, at 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 123 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 10-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 23-65 seconds.

Additionally, 7 times exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 5-9 millimeters and earthquake durations of 33-47 seconds, and 23 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 3-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 43-138 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,342 volcano eruptions/explosions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,144 times) while Mount Ibu erupted 1,976 times.
