Dukono Volcano Erupts Monday Morning, Alert Level Remains at Waspada

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 09:55 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 6 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed at approximately 1,200 meters above the peak or 2,287 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the east and southeast. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on April 21, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 206 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters and durations of 31.8-66.85 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 3 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 18-34 millimeters, S-P intervals of 13.69-26.58 seconds, and durations of 63.02-94.16 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 2-5 millimeters, predominantly 3 millimeters.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 3,076 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,363 eruptions), while Mount Dukono erupted 98 times.
