Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning (Saturday, April 12, 2025)

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 07.06 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 7 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 1,100 meters above the peak (2,187 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the northwest. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on April 12, 2025, from 00.00 to 23.59 WIT showed 268 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 5-34 millimeters and durations of 30.02-53.15 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 3 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 7-34 millimeters, S-P intervals of 17.3 seconds, and durations of 68.32-82.53 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 2-4 millimeters, predominantly 3 millimeters.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,774 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,278 eruptions), while Mount Dukono erupted 80 times.
