Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupted Again This Morning (Monday, June 3, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 05:39 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki had only erupted once.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately 300 meters above the peak (1,884 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray to brown in color with thick intensity towards the north. The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on June 3, 2024, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 5 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 14.8-47.3 millimeters and durations of 101-547 seconds.

Then, there were 2 low-frequency earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.4-8.8 millimeters and durations of 21 seconds, and 6 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.4-22 millimeters and durations of 7-9 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, and a sectoral 3-kilometer radius in the Northeast direction and a 5-kilometer radius in the Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 877 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (357 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 140 times.
