Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Tuesday, December 30, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday (12/30/2025) at 23:39 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 43 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column reached 400 meters above the peak (1,725 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with moderate intensity towards the southeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 18 millimeters and a duration of 38 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on December 30, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 82 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 15-28 millimeters and durations of 37-82 seconds.

Subsequently, there were 5 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-9 millimeters and durations of 41-68 seconds, and 7 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-7 millimeters and durations of 61-175 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a 3.5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia recorded 7,558 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (3,146 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 2,739 times.
