Prevalence of Food Consumption Inadequacy in Sawahlunto City Increased by 3.54% in the Last 5 Years

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the prevalence of undernourishment (Prevalence of Undernourishment/PoU) in Sawahlunto City, West Sumatra, was 8.19% in 2024.

This figure decreased by 0.57% from the previous year''s 8.76%, while in the last 5 years, it increased by 3.54%.

Indonesia''s average PoU was 8.27% in 2024. This means that PoU in Sawahlunto City is lower than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needed for a normal, active, and healthy life.

This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that less than 8.19% of the total population in Sawahlunto City consumes food but has insufficient energy requirements.
