Prevalence of Food Consumption Inadequacy in Madiun Rises 1.49% in Last 5 Years

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Madiun Regency, East Java, was 10.97% in 2024.

This figure decreased by 1.49% from the previous year's 12.46%, while in the last 5 years it increased by 1.49%.

Indonesia's average PoU was 8.27% in 2024. This means that Madiun Regency's PoU is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy required for a normal, active, and healthy life.

This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity conditions.

This means that less than 10.97% of the total population in Madiun Regency consume food but have insufficient energy requirements.

Compared to 37 other regencies/cities in East Java Province, Madiun Regency's PoU ranks 29th. The region with the lowest PoU (top rank) is Surabaya City (2.37%) and the highest (last rank) is Situbondo Regency (17.35%).
