Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Evening (Tuesday, December 3, 2024)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 5:19 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 40 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately 500 meters above the peak or 1,825 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the northeast. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 62 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on December 3, 2024, from 00.00 to 06.00 WIT showed 35 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 12-28 millimeters and durations of 32-81 seconds.

Then, there was 1 rockfall event with an amplitude of 2 mm and a duration of 28 seconds, and 71 tremor events with amplitudes of 2-6 millimeters and durations of 18-60 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 5.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.
