West Nias Regency's Food Consumption Deficiency Rate Increased by 10.95% in 2023

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in West Nias Regency, North Sumatra, was 10.95% in 2023.

This figure is up 0.51% from the previous year's 10.44%, and has increased by 4.53% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in West Nias Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the population in West Nias Regency who consume food but whose energy needs are insufficient, does not reach 10.95% of the total population.

Compared to 32 other regencies/cities in North Sumatra Province, West Nias Regency ranks 30th in terms of PoU. The area with the lowest PoU (highest ranking) is Padang Lawas Regency (5.26%), and the highest (lowest ranking) is South Nias Regency (13.45%).
