Mount Dukono Erupts Again Today, Ash Column Reaches 1,700 Meters

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Monday (July 28, 2025) at 09:11 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has only erupted once.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column reached 1,700 meters above the peak or 2,787 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to grey with thick intensity towards the northeast. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcanic activity report, Mount Dukono's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on July 28, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 127 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-34 millimeters and durations of 30.09-332.04 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 deep volcanic earthquake with an amplitude of 5 millimeters s-p 3.88 seconds and a duration of 35.44 seconds, and 2 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 8-10 millimeters s-p 22.92 seconds and durations of 65.38-88.04 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities, climb, or approach Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,344 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has erupted the most (2,145 times), while Mount Dukono has erupted 450 times.
