Food Consumption Deficiency Rate in Keerom Regency Increased by 47.9% in 2023

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Keerom Regency, Papua, was 47.9% in 2023.

This figure increased by 8.91% from the previous year's 38.99%, while it decreased by 2.84% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Keerom Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needs for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that in Keerom Regency, the percentage of the population consuming insufficient food to meet their energy needs does not reach 47.9% of the total population. The 47.9% figure represents the prevalence of undernourishment, not the percentage of the population consuming insufficient food.
