Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Monday, September 29, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (September 29, 2025) at 21:17 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 8 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 200 meters above the peak or 1,784 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22.2 millimeters and a duration of 62 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 29, 2025, from 12:00-18:00 WITA showed 3 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 14.8-29.6 millimeters and earthquake durations of 77-98 seconds.

Subsequently, 5 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-29.6 millimeters and durations of 33-58 seconds, and 6 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.9-22.2 millimeters and durations of 65-140 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activities within a 6-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki's eruption.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,447 volcano eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,531 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 651 times.
