Alert! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Saturday, February 28, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Saturday (February 28, 2026) at 06:03 WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 35 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

No eruption visuals were observed. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 40 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on February 28, 2026 from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 99 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 15-28 millimeters and durations of 31-74 seconds.

Additionally, there was 1 collapse earthquake with an amplitude of 6 mm and duration of 44 seconds, as well as 2 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-6 millimeters and durations of 37-41 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a 3.5-kilometer sectoral expansion towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

In 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 795 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (412 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 336 times.
