Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Friday, March 28, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 09.00 WIT (West Indonesian Time). In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 39 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to be approximately 600 meters above the peak (1,925 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 44 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on March 28, 2025, from 18.00 to 23.59 WIT showed 27 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 23-28 millimeters and durations of 40-62 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 25 puffing quakes with amplitudes of 4-7 millimeters and durations of 17-32 seconds, and 36 shallow volcanic quakes with amplitudes of 4-11 millimeters and durations of 19-29 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia recorded 2,470 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,140 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 965 times.
