Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Friday, May 24, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Friday (May 24, 2024) at 10:21 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 11 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22.2 millimeters and a duration of 202 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on May 24, 2024, from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 5 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 29.6-47.3 millimeters and durations of 92-389 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 2 tremor quakes with amplitudes of 7.4 millimeters and durations of 28-31 seconds, and 1 low-frequency quake with an amplitude of 2.9 millimeters and a duration of 20 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to conduct any activities within a 2-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, and a sectoral radius of 3 kilometers in the North-Northeast direction and 5 kilometers in the Northeast sector.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 783 volcanic eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (308 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 113 times.
