Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Morning (Tuesday, February 24, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday (February 24, 2026) at 07:12 WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 9 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height is approximately 600 meters above the peak (1,925 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with moderate intensity towards the southeast. The eruption of Mount Ibu was still ongoing when this report was made.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on February 24, 2026 from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 124 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 14-28 millimeters and durations of 35-83 seconds.

Then, 5 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-8 millimeters and durations of 37-48 seconds, as well as 6 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-8 millimeters and durations of 41-77 seconds.

PVMBG urges residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral extension of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 749 volcanic eruptions/explosions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (393 explosions) while Mount Ibu has erupted 310 times.
