The Indonesian government has set the main objectives and targets for the free nutritious meal program (MBG) for 2025.
This is stipulated in Presidential Regulation Number 79 of 2025 concerning the Updating of the Government Work Plan for 2025, which was enacted and promulgated on June 30, 2025.
The main targets for 2025 that the government aims to achieve through the provision of nutritious meals and the strengthening of the population's ecosystem can be seen as follows:
- Food handlers who receive training reaching 100%
- Pregnant mothers, breastfeeding mothers, caregivers of toddlers, students, and santri with good nutritional literacy scores reaching 50%
- School children at all levels receiving nutritious meals reaching 24%
- Breastfeeding mothers receiving nutritious meals reaching 11%
- Toddlers receiving nutritious meals reaching 11%
- Pregnant mothers receiving nutritious meals reaching 10%
- Santri receiving nutritious meals reaching 2%
- The number of nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPG) meeting standards reaching 5,000 units
- Integrated data and information system for national nutrition fulfillment consisting of 1 system
The government states that MBG is provided in accordance with the principles of balanced, diverse, safe nutrition, and aligned with local preferences, with a content of 20-25% (in the form of breakfast) and 30-35% (in the form of lunch) of the daily nutritional adequacy figures as stipulated in Minister of Health Regulation Number 28 of 2019.
According to the government, to support the implementation of the MBG program, supporting programs have been formulated, including:
- Nutrition education and promotion of healthy lifestyle changes
- Anthropometric measurements
- Provision of clean water and sanitation facilities
- Ensuring the availability of food stock and diversity
- Utilization of local commodities as raw materials
- Ensuring food safety and hygiene
- Waste and garbage management
- Provision of supporting infrastructure (electricity, transportation, and telecommunications)
- Community empowerment, local farmers, livestock breeders, MSMEs, cooperatives, and Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDesa).
