Ministry of Environment and Forestry Detects 458 Hotspots in Indonesia, Most in West Kalimantan (Monday, February 2, 2026)

Based on the SiPongi forest and land fire monitoring system of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), monitoring over the last 24 hours shows that 458 hotspots were detected in Indonesia. This number increased by 75 points compared to the previous period.

The data is the result of satellite imagery from Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA, accessed on Monday (2/2/2026) at 11:14 AM WIB. Of the 458 detected hotspots, 12 points had a high confidence level, 432 points were medium scale, and 14 points were low scale.

Hotspot confidence levels are divided into 3 scales. The low scale ranges from 0 - 29, the medium scale from 30 - 79, and the high scale from 80 - 100. The higher the hotspot confidence level, the higher the likelihood of forest and land fires occurring in a particular area.

The highest number of hotspots was detected in West Kalimantan, with 159 points. Riau ranked second with 48 hotspots. North Maluku was in third place with 45 hotspots.

A total of 39 hotspots were detected in Riau Islands, followed by Central Sulawesi with 25 hotspots, and Aceh and Southeast Sulawesi each having 23 and 17 hotspots detected.

A hotspot is a coordinate point in an area that has a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of clustered hotspots in an area indicates the occurrence of forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellite detection is still the most effective in monitoring forest and land fires over a large area.
