Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Saturday, September 27, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Saturday (27/9/2025) at 09:06 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 71 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 1,000 meters above the peak or 2,584 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 29.6 millimeters and a duration of 75 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Seismicity observations on September 27, 2025, from 00:00-06:00 WITA showed 4 eruption earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.4-37 millimeters and durations of 80-182 seconds.

Subsequently, 1 local tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 2.9 millimeters s-p 9.4 seconds and a duration of 37 seconds, and 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 47.3 millimeters s-p 18.1 seconds and a duration of 73 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 6-kilometer radius and a 7-kilometer sectoral distance from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, covering the Southwest-Northeast direction.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,382 volcano eruptions in Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,508 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 633 times.
