Alert! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Tonight (Wednesday, March 4, 2026)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday (March 4, 2026) at 21:12 WITA. In the past week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 4 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height is approximately 800 meters above the peak (2,384 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray in color with thick intensity towards the north and northeast. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 77 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on March 4, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 2 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.4-14.8 millimeters and durations of 50-183 seconds.

Then, 3 collapse earthquakes with amplitudes of 10.5-29.6 mm and durations of 42-82 seconds, as well as 6 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 4.4-18.5 millimeters and durations of 33-47 seconds.

PVMBG urges residents around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 4-kilometer radius from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

In 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 838 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (421 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 4 times.
