Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Morning (Friday, September 19, 2025)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Friday (September 19, 2025) at 10:47 AM WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 8 times.

According to eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 500 meters above the peak (1,923 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be white to grey with moderate intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 5.5 millimeters and a duration of 48 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ili Lewotolok is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on September 19, 2025, from 00:00-06:00 WITA showed 15 eruption/explosive earthquakes with amplitudes of 11-18.9 millimeters and durations of 36-50 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 rockfall earthquake with an amplitude of 3.2 mm and a duration of 56 seconds, and 80 shallow gas emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.6-8.2 millimeters and durations of 30-35 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok, as well as visitors/hikers/tourists, not to enter and not to engage in activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok''s activity, and to be aware of the potential hazards from lava falls/landslides and pyroclastic flows from the Southern, Southeastern, Western, and Northeastern sectors of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,146 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,462 times), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 276 times.
