Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again Tonight, Volcanic Ash Height Around 200 Meters

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Sunday (27/7/2025) at 18:25 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok has erupted 20 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 200 meters above the peak or 1,623 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with moderate intensity towards the northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 35.3 millimeters and a duration of 30 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcanic activity report, Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismicity observations on July 27, 2025, from 12:00-18:00 WITA showed 52 eruption tremors with an amplitude of 9.4-33 millimeters and a duration of 29-31 seconds.

Furthermore, 41 exhalation tremors with an amplitude of 1.4-8.1 millimeters and a duration of 29-31 seconds, and 3 shallow volcanic tremors with an amplitude of 2.9-9.6 millimeters and a duration of 5-10 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok, as well as visitors/climbers/tourists, not to enter or conduct activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and to be aware of potential hazards from lava falls/landslides and pyroclastic flows from the South and Southeast sectors, West sector, and Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,337 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,144 times), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 197 times.
