Mount Ili Lewotolok Erupts Again This Morning (Monday, October 6, 2025)

Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday (10/6/2025) at 06:35 WITA. In the last week, Mount Ili Lewotolok only erupted once.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column reached 700 meters above the peak or 2,123 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to grey with thick intensity towards the west. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 12.4 millimeters and a duration of 71 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcanic activity report, Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismicity observations on October 6, 2025, at 00:00-06:00 WITA showed 45 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 8.2-25.7 millimeters and durations of 37-81 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 73 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 1.5-7 millimeters and durations of 24-48 seconds, and 1 shallow volcanic earthquake with an amplitude of 16.3 millimeters and a duration of 12 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ili Lewotolok, as well as visitors/climbers/tourists, not to enter or engage in activities within a 3-kilometer radius from the center of Mount Ili Lewotolok's activity, and to be aware of the potential hazards from falling/landslides of lava and pyroclastic clouds from the South and Southeast sectors, the West sector, and the Northeast sector of Mount Ili Lewotolok.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,547 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,562 times), while Mount Ili Lewotolok erupted 288 times.
