Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Friday, December 6, 2024)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Friday (6/12/2024) at 21:19 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 73 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

The eruption was not visually observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 74 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on December 6, 2024, from 12:00 to 18:00 WIT showed 13 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 18-28 millimeters and durations of 32-79 seconds.

Then, there were 2 rockfall quakes with amplitudes of 4-6 mm and durations of 37-68 seconds, and 11 emission quakes with amplitudes of 2-16 millimeters and durations of 25-60 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 5.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia recorded 5,749 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions with 2,375.
