Warning! Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Monday, February 9, 2026)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Monday (February 9, 2026) at 19.00 WIT. In the past week, Mount Ibu has erupted 5 times.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the ash column was observed to be around 400 meters above the peak or 1,725 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray in color with thick intensity towards the northeast. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 46 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level II (Warning). Earthquake observations on February 9, 2026 from 00.00-23.59 WIT showed 93 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 13-28 millimeters and durations of 34-76 seconds.

Then, 1 emission earthquake with an amplitude of 8 millimeters and a duration of 38 seconds, as well as 15 harmonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 2-28 millimeters and durations of 44-170 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to carry out activities within a 2.0 kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 534 volcanic eruptions/explosions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (276 eruptions) while Mount Ibu has erupted 220 times.
