Ministry of Environment and Forestry Detects 610 Hotspots in Indonesia, Most in Central Kalimantan (Saturday, January 17, 2026)

Based on the SiPongi forest and land fire monitoring system of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), monitoring in the last 24 hours showed that 610 hotspots were detected in Indonesia. This number of hotspots increased by 218 points compared to the previous period.

The data is the result of Terra/Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA satellite imagery accessed on Saturday (January 17, 2026) at 11:02 AM WIB. Of the 610 detected hotspots, 21 points had a high confidence level, 581 points were at a medium scale, and 8 points were at a low scale.

The hotspot confidence level is divided into 3 scales. The low scale ranges from 0 - 29, the medium scale from 30 - 79, and the high scale from 80 - 100. The higher the hotspot confidence level, the higher the likelihood of forest and land fires occurring in a certain area.

The most detected hotspots were in Central Kalimantan, with 115 points. West Kalimantan ranked second with 97 hotspots. Southeast Sulawesi was in third place with 80 hotspots.

As many as 66 hotspots were detected in North Maluku, followed by Central Sulawesi with 64 hotspots, and South Sulawesi and Aceh each had 61 and 29 detected hotspots.

A hotspot is a coordinate point of an area that has a higher surface temperature than its surroundings, and is not the number of forest and land fire incidents.

However, a large number of clustered hotspots in an area indicates the occurrence of forest and land fires. This means that hotspot data from remote sensing satellite detection is still the most effective in monitoring forest and land fires over a wide area.
