Mount Ibu Erupts Again Tonight (Thursday, April 10, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 7:17 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 47 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to be approximately 500 meters above the peak (1,825 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the east. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 46 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level III (Alert). Observations of seismic activity on April 10, 2025, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM WIT showed 19 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 18-28 millimeters and durations of 37-57 seconds.

Furthermore, there were 32 tremor events with amplitudes of 3-8 millimeters and durations of 20-31 seconds, and 48 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 3-6 millimeters and durations of 19-24 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists to refrain from activities within a 4-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 2,732 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (1,262), while Mount Ibu erupted 1,061 times.
