Warning! Tonight Mount Ibu Erupts Again (Tuesday, July 29, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Tuesday (July 29, 2025) at 09:23 PM WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 9 times.

Citing eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 500 meters above the peak (1,825 meters above sea level).

The observed ash column was grey with thick intensity towards the northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 21 millimeters and a duration of 39 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Ibu is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on July 29, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 105 eruptive/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 13-28 millimeters and durations of 41-96 seconds.

Furthermore, 8 exhalation earthquakes with amplitudes of 8-12 millimeters and durations of 32-48 seconds, and 11 harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-28 millimeters and durations of 26-238 seconds occurred.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a radius of 2 kilometers and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 5,371 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java erupted the most (2,159 times), while Mount Ibu erupted 1,984 times.
