Mount Ibu Erupts Again This Afternoon (Friday, October 3, 2025)

Mount Ibu in North Maluku erupted again on Friday (3/10/2025) at 12:11 WIT. In the last week, Mount Ibu has erupted 32 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached None meters above the peak (None meters above sea level).

Visual eruption was not observed. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters and a duration of 56 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, Mount Ibu's activity level is at Level II (Alert). Seismicity observations on October 3, 2025, from 00:00-23:59 WIT showed 101 eruption/explosion earthquakes with amplitudes of 12-28 millimeters and earthquake durations of 32-74 seconds.

Then, 3 times of emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 4-8 millimeters and durations of 34-42 seconds, and 13 times of harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2-28 millimeters and durations of 26-138 seconds.

PVMBG urged the public around Mount Ibu and visitors/tourists not to engage in activities within a 2-kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of Mount Ibu's active crater.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,516 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,549 times) while Mount Ibu erupted 2,347 times.
