Mount Dukono Erupts Again This Morning, Ash Reaches 1,500 Meters Above the Summit

Mount Dukono in North Maluku erupted again on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 7:00 WIT. In the last week, Mount Dukono has erupted 4 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the ash column height was observed to be approximately 1,500 meters above the peak or 2,587 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be white to gray with thick intensity towards the northwest. The eruption of Mount Dukono was still ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcanic activity report, the activity level of Mount Dukono is at Level II (Alert). Seismic observations on February 17, 2025, from 00:00 to 23:59 WIT showed 212 eruption quakes with amplitudes of 6-34 millimeters and durations of 33.02-90.43 seconds.

Furthermore, there was 1 distant tectonic earthquake with an amplitude of 20 millimeters, an s-p time of 20.25 seconds, and a duration of 85.91 seconds, as well as 1 continuous tremor with an amplitude of 1-5 millimeters, predominantly 4 millimeters.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Dukono and visitors/tourists not to conduct activities, climb, or approach the Malupang Warirang Crater within a 4-kilometer radius.

During 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 1,317 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (660 eruptions), while Mount Dukono erupted 10 times.
