Prevalence of Inadequate Food Consumption in Brebes Decreases by 1.08% in the Last 5 Years

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the prevalence of undernourishment (PoU) in Brebes Regency, Central Java, reached 9.37% in 2023.

This figure is down 1.63% from the previous year's 11.0%, and down 1.08% over the past five years.

The average PoU in Indonesia was 8.53% in 2023. This means that the PoU in Brebes Regency is higher than the national average.

According to the National Food Agency (Bapanas), PoU is a condition where a person regularly consumes an insufficient amount of food to meet the energy needed for a normal, active, and healthy life. This indicator can be used as a tool to assess food and nutrition insecurity.

This means that the percentage of residents in Brebes Regency who consume food but whose energy needs are insufficient does not reach 9.37% of the total population.

Compared to 34 other regencies/cities in Central Java Province, Brebes Regency ranks 11th in terms of PoU. The areas with the lowest PoU (top ranking) are Salatiga City (5.83%) and the highest (bottom ranking) is Purworejo Regency (14.71%).
