Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again Early This Morning (Friday, October 17, 2025)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Friday (17/10/2025) at 01:46 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 8 times.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the height of the observed ash column reached 1,500 meters above the peak or 3,084 meters above sea level.

The observed ash column was gray with thick intensity towards the southwest, west, and northwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and a duration of 175 seconds.

According to MAGMA Indonesia's volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level IV (Alert). Seismic observations on October 17, 2025, from 18:00-23:59 WITA, showed 3 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.9-5.9 millimeters and a duration of 87-142 seconds.

Additionally, 9 deep volcanic earthquakes occurred with amplitudes of 2.2-29.6 millimeters, s-p 0.9-2.2 seconds, and durations of 10-16 seconds, as well as 2 distant tectonic earthquakes with amplitudes of 7.4-29.6 millimeters, s-p 10 seconds, and durations of 58-78 seconds.

PVMBG urges the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to engage in any activities within a 6-kilometer radius and a 7-kilometer sectoral area from the southwest-north-northeast direction of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki's eruption center.

Throughout 2025, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 6,679 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java had the most eruptions (2,627 times), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 703 times.
