Alert! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Wednesday, March 11, 2026)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Wednesday (March 11, 2026) at 09:17 WITA. In the past week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted twice.

Quoting eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height is approximately 800 meters above the peak (2,384 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the northeast and east. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 4.4 millimeters and a duration of 111 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level II (Alert). Earthquake observations on March 11, 2026 from 00:00 to 23:59 WITA showed 3 emission earthquakes with amplitudes of 2.9-7.4 millimeters and durations of 33-58 seconds.

Then, 11 non-harmonic tremors with amplitudes of 2.9-7.4 millimeters and durations of 61-167 seconds, as well as 1 low-frequency earthquake with an amplitude of 10.5 millimeters and a duration of 30 seconds.

PVMBG advises residents around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 4-kilometer radius of the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki eruption center.

Throughout 2026, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 954 volcanic eruptions across Indonesia. Mount Semeru in East Java has the most eruptions (499 times) while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has erupted 11 times.
