According to the Indonesian Hajj Pilgrimage Organizer (PPIH) report in Saudi Arabia, 209,782 Indonesian pilgrims departed for the Holy Land in 2023, divided into 558 groups.
Of this number, 55.1% were women, and the remaining 44.9% were men.
The Head of PPIH Saudi Arabia 1444 H/2023 M, Subhan Cholid, stated that the majority, or 57,178 (27.25%), of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims this year are housewives.
Meanwhile, 43,253 pilgrims were private employees, 42,368 were civil servants (PNS), 29,082 were farmers, 18,069 were traders, 9,389 were retirees, 4,214 were students, 3,137 were state-owned enterprise (BUMN) employees, and 3,092 had other professions.
According to Subhan, of the total 209,782 Indonesian Hajj pilgrims who arrived in the Holy Land this year, 98.34% were first-time pilgrims, and 1.66% had performed the Hajj pilgrimage before.
Based on their education level, 67,543 Indonesian Hajj pilgrims were elementary school graduates, 23,819 were junior high school graduates, 50,252 were senior high school graduates, 12,056 were diploma graduates, 46,793 were bachelor's degree graduates, 7,403 were master's degree graduates, 537 were doctoral degree graduates, and 1,379 had other educational levels.
In terms of age, 61,536 pilgrims were categorized as elderly, with the highest number from Solo Embarkation (11,800 elderly pilgrims). Surabaya Embarkation followed with 10,158 elderly pilgrims, Jakarta-Bekasi with 8,036, and Jakarta-Pondok Gede with 7,139.
There were also 5,791 pilgrims with disabilities, comprising 3,659 women and 2,132 men.
The majority of pilgrims with disabilities departed from Surabaya Embarkation (811 people), followed by Solo (771), Jakarta-Pondok Gede (489), Makassar (489), and Batam (268).
The Saudi Arabian government set 1 Zulhijjah 1444 H on June 19, 2023, and the Wukuf in Arafah on 9 Zulhijjah 1444 H or June 27, 2023.
Subhan stated that Indonesian Hajj pilgrims would be gradually transported from their respective hotels to Arafah on Monday, June 26, 2023.
"The peak of Hajj is approaching. We urge Indonesian Hajj pilgrims to maintain their stamina and health in preparation for the Wukuf in Arafah, and to stay overnight in Muzdalifah and Mina," said Subhan, as quoted from Antara, Sunday (26/6/2023).
