GISAID reports that the number of Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant Covid-19 cases in Indonesia reached 31,175 as of Saturday, December 24, 2022. This represents an increase of 88 cases compared to the previous day. Weekly growth stands at 1.81 percent.
This number of Omicron variant cases places Indonesia first in Southeast Asia. Malaysia still holds the highest number of Omicron cases in Southeast Asia with 25,470 cases.
Thailand reported a 4.05 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous week. Daily cases increased by 0.48 percent compared to the previous day.
Meanwhile, the number of Omicron cases in Singapore increased by 3.24 percent to 17,000 compared to the previous week. The number of Omicron cases in the Philippines decreased by 0.04 percent to 12,129 compared to the previous week, and the number of Omicron cases in Vietnam increased by 2.22 percent to 4,791 compared to the previous week.
GISAID's report also indicates that it has detected a total of 6.96 million Omicron variant Covid-19 cases worldwide. This is an increase compared to the previous week's total of 6.87 million cases.
