This week's COVID-19 statistics in Asia still depict a grim situation, with high death tolls remaining in most countries. This week, 26 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 12 others recorded deaths, albeit in smaller numbers.
Percentage-wise, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Bahrain, Japan, Nepal, Pakistan, and Israel. The total deaths in these five countries as of Friday, January 28, 2022, amounted to 471, with a weekly growth exceeding 94.81 percent.
Bahrain ranks first, with a 300 percent weekly increase in deaths. Worldometer recorded four deaths in this country, a 100 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Japan follows in second place. Compared to the previous week, deaths in this country grew by 215.56 percent, totaling 142 deaths. Daily statistics show a 23.48% increase in deaths compared to the previous day's 115 deaths.
Next, Nepal saw a 150% increase in deaths, Pakistan a 140% increase, and Israel recorded 150 deaths (a 94.81% increase).
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Asia occurred in India, with 3,934 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 28.06% compared to the previous week. Following India, Turkey reported the highest number of deaths with 1,242 (up 8.85%), Vietnam with 1,025 deaths (down 6.48%), the Philippines with 583 deaths (up 39.14%), and Georgia with 258 deaths (up 15.7%).
A total of 9,052 deaths were recorded in Asia over the past seven days. This accounts for 15.02 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 60,255 deaths. The number of deaths in Asia increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 7,599 deaths.
