The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.69 million cases by Saturday, December 24, 2022. The United States ranks first, with a weekly Omicron case growth of 1.44 percent. GISAID recorded 2.04 million Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 0.34 percent compared to the previous day.
Following the US is the United Kingdom, with a weekly growth in Omicron cases reaching 0.37 percent. The number of Omicron cases reported in the UK is 1.36 million. Daily statistics show a 0.04 percent increase in Omicron cases compared to the previous day, also totaling 1.36 million.
Next is Denmark with 337,260 Omicron cases (up 1.01%), France with 314,400 cases (up 0.82% compared to the previous week), and Japan with 308,440 cases (up 3.5%).
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases recorded to date is 31,175, a 0.28 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
