PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) reveals that the majority of the global population uses health and nutrition-related applications in their daily lives. This is detailed in PwC’s Voice of the Consumer 2025: A New Recipe for the Food Industry.
Based on a survey conducted in early 2025, 33% of respondents stated they use health apps to support their exercise activities. On the other hand, 30% of the global population uses platforms to support their diets.
The following are the reasons/activities of the global population when using health apps or technology in their lives:
- Exercise instruction and monitoring: 33%
- Dieting, weight loss, and healthy eating: 30%
- Mental health and well-being: 28%
- Sleep tracking: 27%
- Women's health: 21%
- Communicate remotely with healthcare services: 20%
- Managing chronic conditions: 18%
- Advanced real-time monitoring providing nutrition recommendations: 17%
- Not using health apps or technology: 30%
According to PwC, the survey shows that 70% of consumers currently use at least one health app or technology to support their routines. On the other hand, 90% of users acknowledge that the technology they use has influenced their daily habits.
Furthermore, consumers have shown a readiness to use artificial intelligence (AI) to meet their dietary needs and preferences. Therefore, says PwC, this represents a significant opportunity to create an ecosystem that integrates convenience, shopping, health, and technology.
“Companies that can effectively combine these elements stand to benefit by offering consumers the guidance they need to shop, cook and eat well, supported by AI-driven solutions,” PwC stated.
PwC's survey was conducted in January-February 2025. A total of 21,075 consumers aged 18 and over from 28 countries and regions participated in this survey. Interviews with industry executives took place in May 2025.
