The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 5.45 million cases by Thursday, November 3, 2022. According to GISAID data, Seychelles recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with 608 new cases. The total number of Omicron cases in Seychelles currently represents 0.01 percent of the global total.
Saudi Arabia follows with a weekly growth in Omicron cases of 23.26 percent, adding 159 cases. Daily statistics show a 10.42 percent increase in new Omicron cases compared to the previous day's 144 cases.
Furthermore, the Philippines saw an 18.89 percent increase in Omicron cases, reaching 10,720 compared to the previous week. Peru saw a 6.38 percent increase, reaching 19,772 cases, and Guatemala reported 1,189 new Omicron cases (a 5.22 percent increase).
In Indonesia, the number of Omicron cases reached 25,320, a 0.08 percent increase from the previous day. Since its initial detection, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges everyone to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is advised to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
