The Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant of the Covid-19 virus continues to spread globally, reaching 4.99 million cases by Sunday, December 25, 2022. Togo recorded the highest increase in Omicron cases, with weekly growth reaching 23.55 percent. GISAID recorded 341 new Omicron cases in the country. Daily cases in this region increased by 23.55 percent compared to the previous day.
Ghana followed in second place. Compared to the previous week, Omicron cases in the country grew by 21.07 percent. The daily increase in Omicron cases in the country rose by 21.07 percent compared to the previous day, totaling 1,457 cases.
Furthermore, the increase in Omicron cases in Spain rose by 13.98 percent to 87,699 cases compared to the previous week, the Republic of the Congo with an increase of 108 Omicron cases (up 9.09%), and China (PRC) with an increase of 736 Omicron cases (up 6.82%).
Meanwhile, the increase in Omicron cases in Indonesia, up to today's data, recorded 31,307 cases, or a 0.42 percent increase compared to the previous day. Since it was first monitored, Omicron cases in Indonesia have continued to rise.
The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) urges all parties to remain vigilant in the face of the global surge in Omicron cases. The public is urged to consistently adhere to the 3M health protocols: wearing masks, maintaining distance, and washing hands.
