Warning! Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Erupts Again This Morning (Monday, September 30, 2024)

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted again on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 06.01 WITA. In the last week, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki had only erupted once.

Based on eruption information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) via the MAGMA Indonesia application, the observed ash column height reached 800 meters above the peak (2,384 meters above sea level).

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the southwest. The eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 6.6 millimeters and a duration of 310 seconds.

According to the MAGMA Indonesia volcano activity report, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is at Level III (Alert). Seismic observations on September 30, 2024, from 18.00 to 23.59 WITA showed 1 eruption earthquake with an amplitude of 7.4 millimeters and a duration of 813 seconds.

Then, there were 2 puffing earthquakes with amplitudes of 3.7-4.4 millimeters and durations of 66-80 seconds, and 2 shallow volcanic earthquakes with amplitudes of 5.1-6.6 millimeters and durations of 10-11 seconds.

PVMBG advises the public around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and Mount Lewotobi Perempuan, and 4 kilometers in the North-Northeast sector and 5 kilometers in the Northeast sector from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki.

During 2024, MAGMA Indonesia has recorded 4,211 volcanic eruptions/eruptions throughout Indonesia. Mount Ibu in North Maluku had the most eruptions (1,766 eruptions), while Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted 720 times.
