According to data from the eco-friendly technology website CleanTechnica, electric vehicle (EV) sales in the Chinese market reached 6.2 million units by October 2023.
These EV sales were dominated by domestic manufacturers. Nine out of ten of the best-selling brands were locally produced.
The BYD Song ranked first as the best-selling electric vehicle in China, with sales volume reaching 492,201 units from January to October 2023. This figure includes sales of both Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs).
From the same manufacturer, the BYD Qin Plus followed in second place, recording sales of 370,453 units. This sales volume also includes BEVs and PHEVs.
The Tesla Model Y was the only imported electric vehicle highly sought after by consumers in China. Elon Musk's vehicle sold 346,462 units by October 2023.
Besides BYD, other Chinese electric vehicles, namely the GAC Aion and Wuling, also made the list of best-selling electric vehicles through the tenth month of this year.
