According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of train passengers in Indonesia reached 42.59 million in November 2024.
This figure includes train passengers on Java and Sumatra islands, including airport trains, MRT, LRT, and the Whoosh high-speed rail.
The number of national train passengers in November 2024 decreased by 6.39% compared to the previous month (month-to-month/mtm).
BPS Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics, Pudji Ismartini, explained that this decrease was due to the low season and fewer working days in November 2024.
"In addition, there was a joint leave for the Simultaneous Regional Elections, which reduced the activity of commuter workers who are the largest users of the Jabodetabek KRL, MRT, and LRT modes of transportation," said Pudji in an online press conference on Thursday (2/1/2025).
In November 2024, the most passengers came from Jabodetabek commuter train users, namely 27.52 million people or 64.62% of the total national train passengers. However, the volume decreased by 8.05% month-on-month (mtm).
Then, airport train passengers decreased by 3.64% (mtm) to 650,000 people; MRT decreased by 8.98% (mtm) to 3.51 million people; and LRT decreased by 6.85% (mtm) to 2.51 million people.
On the other hand, the number of train passengers in non-Jabodetabek Java increased by 0.37% (mtm) to 7.32 million people, and the Whoosh high-speed rail increased by 5.97% (mtm) to 546,800 people.
Meanwhile, the number of passengers in Sumatra in November 2024 remained the same as the previous month, namely 518,600 people.
Cumulatively, the number of national train passengers from January to November 2024 reached 458.8 million people, up 18.62% compared to the same period last year (cumulative-to-cumulative/ctc).
The increase in cumulative passenger numbers occurred in the Jabodetabek area by 13.37% (ctc), non-Jabodetabek Java increased by 11.80% (ctc), airport trains increased by 44.21% (ctc), MRT increased by 19.28% (ctc), LRT surged by 193.97% (ctc), and the Whoosh high-speed rail grew by 752.15% (ctc).
Meanwhile, the number of train passengers in Sumatra decreased by 7.80% (ctc).
