Based on data from the ASEAN Automotive Federation (AAF), motorcycle sales in Southeast Asia reached 3.45 million units from January to April 2024.
This represents a 3.5% decrease year-on-year (YoY) compared to the 3.58 million units sold during the same period in 2023.
The AAF data only includes motorcycle sales from five Southeast Asian countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
As of April 2024, Indonesia remained the largest motorcycle market, with sales of 2.15 million units, accounting for 62.45% of total regional sales.
However, motorcycle sales in Indonesia from January to April 2024 saw a slight decrease of 1.1% (YoY).
Thailand ranked second with motorcycle sales of 574,649 units, down 8.9% (YoY). This contributed 16.65% to the region's total sales.
Motorcycle sales in the Philippines decreased by 2.1% (YoY) to 541,104 units, Malaysia decreased by 16.8% (YoY) to 175,305 units, and Singapore increased by 14.2% (YoY) to 4,071 units.
The AAF also reported that motorcycle production in Southeast Asia reached 3.57 million units from January to April 2024, down 4.3% (YoY).
Indonesia was the largest producer with 2.3 million units, followed by Thailand with 669,785 units, the Philippines with 425,946 units, and Malaysia with 170,935 units.
