The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's rice imports from January to November 2022 reached 326,500 tons, with almost half originating from India.
"Looking at the country of origin, the largest rice imports throughout 2022 came from India, with a volume of 157,970 tons, or 48.49% of total national rice imports," said BPS Deputy for Production Statistics M. Habibullah in a press conference on Thursday (15/12/2022).
The second largest rice importer was Pakistan, with 68,720 tons or 21.05%. Rice imports from Thailand amounted to 51,580 tons or 15.8%.
Rice imports from Vietnam totaled 44,340 tons or 13.58%, while imports from other countries amounted to 3,850 tons or 1.18%.
These imports were dominated by broken rice, other than of kind used for animal feed (HS 10064090), with a volume of 284,500 tons. This figure represents 87.15% of total national rice imports during that period.
In addition, Indonesia also imported glutinous rice (HS 10063030) totaling 26,230 tons (8.03%). Further, other fragrant rice (HS 10063070) amounted to 7,100 tons (2.17%), and semi-milled or wholly milled rice (HS 10063099) amounted to 6,550,000 tons (2.01%).
There were also imports of basmati rice (HS 10063050) totaling 1,760 tons (0.54%), hom mali rice (HS 10063040) totaling 300 tons (0.09%), and other types of rice totaling 10 tons.
