Indonesia recorded exports to India totaling US$10.41 billion as of December 2020. This figure represents a significant 11.92% decrease compared to the previous year's exports of US$11.82 billion.
Indonesia's trade record with India shows a drastic reduction in exports over the past 10 years. The lowest export value reached US$10.09 billion, while the highest reached US$14.08 billion.
Of the 97 products (two-digit HS codes) exported to India, 40 products were worth more than one billion dollars. Furthermore, according to Trademap data, four main Indonesian products are exported to India annually. This indicates a considerable dependence on these export products. The majority of other exported products (80 products) are also exported to other countries.
Below is a list of the top five Indonesian products exported to India, ordered from highest to lowest transaction value:
1. Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation
Falling under HS code 27, mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation are categorized together with bituminous substances and mineral waxes. Exports of this product to India ranked first, totaling US$3.66 billion. This is lower than the previous period's US$5.02 billion.
2. Vegetable oils and fats and their cleavage products
Falling under HS code 15, vegetable oils and fats and their cleavage products are categorized together with edible fats and animal or vegetable fats and oils. Indonesia exported US$3.06 billion worth of these products to India.
3. Other Chemical Products
Exports of other chemical products to India ranked third. In 2020, Indonesia recorded exports valued at US$335.19 million. Other top five export destinations include China, the Netherlands, Malaysia, and the United States.
4. Iron and steel
This product falls under HS code 72. Indonesia exported US$312.76 million worth of iron and steel to India. Besides India, Indonesia also relies on exports of iron and steel to China, Taiwan, South Korea, and Malaysia. In addition to these main countries, Indonesia exported this product to 73 other countries.
5. Ores, slag and ash
Indonesia exported this product to 25 countries. Exports of ores, slag, and ash to India ranked fifth. In 2020, Indonesia recorded exports totaling US$289.9 million. Besides India, the largest exports of ores, slag, and ash were destined for China, Japan, South Korea, and Germany.
